Telstra Group (ASX:TLS) was fined more than AU$3 million over hundreds of breaches of emergency call rules during a technical disruption at its Triple Zero emergency call center, according to a Wednesday statement by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA).
A probe found 473 breaches relating to a March 1 technical incident, which resulted in multiple failures to transfer calls to emergency services for 90 minutes. Telstra initiated a contingency process through backup phone numbers, several of which were incorrect, ACMA said.
Telstra has already taken steps to back up its phone number list and appointed an independent consultant to conduct an incident review in the wake of ACMA's findings, ACMA said.
The ASX-listed telecommunications and technology company didn't immediately respond to a request from MT Newswires for comment.
