WISeKey International Holdings (WKEY) shares surged 86% in recent Friday trading after the company said its WISeSat.Space subsidiary will launch its next-generation satellites in partnership with SpaceX on Jan. 14 from California's Vandenberg Space Force Base.
The satellites are designed to be "post-quantum-ready" and will use WISeKey's security technology and WISeKey unit SEALSQ's advanced chips to guard against emerging quantum threats, the company said Friday in a statement.
The WISeSat constellation will provide secure, real-time connectivity for internet-connected devices worldwide, supporting industries such as logistics, agriculture, energy, and infrastructure management, the company said
The company plans to focus later on boosting the number of satellites to provide higher bandwidth, integrating artificial intelligence for real-time data processing and developing hybrid terrestrial-satellite services to improve connectivity.
