Contact Energy's (NZE:CEN, ASX:CEN) retail electricity sales declined in November compared with the year-earlier period, while wholesale electricity sales rose, according to a Monday filing with the Australian and New Zealand bourses.
Retail mass market electricity sales fell to 248 gigawatt hours (GWh) in November from 251 GWh in the same period in 2023. Retail gas sales also fell to 42 GWh from 48.
Wholesale electricity sales to businesses increased to 274 GWh from 261 GWh. Wholesale spot electricity sales grew to 741 GWh from 641 GWh.
Electricity demand was down 1.1% year on year in November due to reduced consumption by the New Zealand Aluminium Smelter following the activation of demand response mechanisms, as per the filing.
