Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL)'s interest in developing foldable devices already started since 2019 with its patent titled Hinges for Folding Display Devices that describes Apple's sophisticated hinge mechanism with interconnected links, smooth and controlled folding idea.

    Apple's foldable display patent is now updated on December 10, 2024, with the same title but the updated patent includes new innovations and improvements over the original 2019 filing such as the interdigitated fingers in a friction clutch and textured flexible areas to prevent cracking.

    While Apple hasn't yet released a foldable device, but they are serious in exploring this technology. The foldable display market is now filled with Samsung as the strongest rival.

    If Apple can produce a high-quality foldable device, with real enhancements and meet the hurdles such as durability and usability then the competition with existing brands is possible to be well navigated.
