Honda Motor (HMC) disclosed plans Wednesday to build a production plant in Japan for its next-generation fuel cell system.
The company plans to repurpose a powertrain unit factory in Moka City, Tochigi Prefecture, to produce about 30,000 units of its fuel cell system annually.
The company expects to begin operating the new plant in the fiscal 2028.
Honda said the factory would be the first facility dedicated to the production of its fuel cell system and is expected to be supported by a government subsidy.
