Victorian Opposition Leader John Pesutto used his casting vote to keep MP Moira Deeming out of the Liberal party, ensuring an internal row that has blunted its attack on a struggling Labor government rolls into next year.
Friday’s partyroom vote on whether to bring Mrs Deeming back into the fold comes on top of a Federal Court ruling that Mr Pesutto must pay the hefty legal fees for her successful defamation claim against him, which could be enough to bankrupt the leader.
