Malaysia's Power, Utilities Sector Supported by Tight Demand-Supply Conditions -- Market Talk

0219 GMT - The outlook for Malaysia's power and utilities sector appears positive, supported by tight demand-supply conditions in the power-generation market, TA Securities analyst Hafriz Hezry says in a note. Record-high renewable-energy rollout, potential increases in grid capital expenditure to support the country's energy transition, and the launch of Malaysia's renewable-energy exports could serve as tailwinds for the sector, he says. The sector's growth should be driven by the country's target of a 70% renewable-energy mix by 2050, with rising data-center capacity boosting demand and the need for new generation capacity, he adds. TA Securities maintains an overweight rating on the sector, pegging Tenaga Nasional, Malakoff, YTL Power International and Samaiden as key beneficiaries. (yingxian.wong@wsj.com)
