Singapore Shares Edge Lower but Gain 17% for 2024 -- Market Talk

0520 GMT - Singapore shares closed lower, weighed by real-estate stocks. The benchmark FTSE Straits Times Index declined 0.2% to 3787.60, ending the year on a slightly weaker note. The index still gained 17% for 2024, making it Southeast Asia's best performer. The market closed early ahead of the New Year's Day holiday and will resume trading on Thursday, when Singapore's advance GDP estimates for 4Q are due to be released. REITs were among the index's top decliners this session, with Mapletree Pan Asia Commercial Trust losing 1.6% and CapitaLand Integrated Commercial Trust shedding 1.0%. Gainers included SGX, which added 1.5%, and Seatrium, which was 1.0% higher. (tracy.qu@wsj.com)
