Possible Bearish Signals With IQVIA Holdings Insiders Disposing Stock

Many IQVIA Holdings Inc. (NYSE:IQV) insiders ditched their stock over the past year, which may be of interest to the company's shareholders. When analyzing insider transactions, it is usually more valuable to know whether insiders are buying versus knowing if they are selling, as the latter sends an ambiguous message. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

IQVIA Holdings Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The President of Research & Development Solutions, W. Staub, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$3.5m worth of shares at a price of US$249 each. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is US$195. So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels.

In the last year IQVIA Holdings insiders didn't buy any company stock. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!

Insider Ownership

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. IQVIA Holdings insiders own 0.8% of the company, currently worth about US$290m based on the recent share price. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
