Anheuser-Busch InBev and Molson Coors stocks were falling in premarket trading Friday after U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy issued an advisory outlining the link between alcohol consumption and cancer risk.

The advisory, issued Friday, named alcohol use the third-leading preventable cause of cancer in the U.S., behind tobacco and obesity.
Alcohol contributes to nearly 100,000 cancer cases and roughly 20,000 cancer deaths each year, the advisory stated. For breast cancer specifically, 16.4% of total cases can be attributed to alcohol use.
The link between alcohol consumption and cancer incidence has been known for decades, but the advisory called for new safeguards including updating the existing surgeon general's health warning label on alcoholic beverages.
