消息面上，蒙古焦煤此前发布公告称，将购买Universal Copper LLC公司已发行及流通股本的50.5%，购买价为2050万美元。公告显示，Universal Copper LLC主要从事铜及其他有色金属的勘探，并持有三份矿产开采特别许可证。
蒙古焦煤董事会表示，此次建议收购将可能让公司的收益来源多元化，减少对单一商品的依赖。此外，该收购强调了根据公司主要策略做出的努力，包括发掘商机，通过潜在策略合作和合营安排扩大和分散业务，并主要物色蒙古国的潜在投资目标。
