TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport experienced a significant increase in passenger traffic during the Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 holidays. Data from December 18, 2024, to January 2, 202,5 showed that the airport handled 2,646,276 passengers, an increase of 8.15 percent compared to the same period last year.
"The number of flight movements reached 17,521 flights, an increase of 5.63% compared to last year," said M. Holik Muardi, deputy assistant for communication and legal affairs at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, on Friday, January 3.
Holik noted that this increase in airport activity during the 2024-2025 holiday season signals a positive trend and reflects the growing momentum in Indonesia's aviation sector. He also expects passenger traffic to remain high until January 5, 2025, especially at the domestic terminal, which serves as the main hub for the return leg of the holiday travel period. "The surge in passengers is expected to continue through Sunday, January 5, with a steady increase in arrivals at the terminal," he added.
Holik attributed part of the increase in passenger traffic to the airport's decision to reduce the Passenger Service Charge (PSC) during the holiday period, a move that supports the government's efforts to encourage air travel during the extended holiday season.
He also emphasized that the smooth handling of the surge was made possible by the combined efforts of all stakeholders involved in the airport's operations. "We greatly appreciate the contributions of all parties, including the staff unions, who were instrumental in ensuring smooth operations during the peak return traffic," he said.
Soekarno-Hatta Airport management worked closely with the PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (Sekarpura) Employees Union to maintain efficient operations. Ganeca Wisnu Anggoro, Head of Sekarpura DPC at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, said that 39 Sekarpura DPC administrators have been actively supporting various tasks such as managing trolley availability at check-in counters, coordinating baggage conveyors and assisting with passenger flow throughout the terminal.
"This collaboration is aimed at strengthening the synergy between management and the labor union, optimizing airport operations, and improving the travel experience for passengers," he said.
