QEM (ASX:QEM) said its Julia Creek vanadium and oil project in Queensland was declared a "Controlled Action" by the Australian government's Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment, and Water, according to a Monday Australian bourse filing.
The declaration comes after the project received "Coordinated Project" status in Queensland, the filing said.
Following the department's decision, the project will benefit from a bilateral agreement between the Australian and Queensland governments, which streamlines the environmental impact statement process for projects that require both Commonwealth and state approvals, the filing added.
Shares of QEM rose over 6% on market close.
