Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSM) has started producing advanced four-nanometer chips for US customers at its facility in Arizona, Reuters reported Friday, citing Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo.

"For the first time ever in our country's history, we are making leading edge four-nanometer chips on American soil, American workers -- on par in yield and quality with Taiwan," Raimondo told Reuters in an interview.

In April, TSMC decided to expand its planned investment by $25 billion, bringing the total to $65 billion, and to establish a third Arizona fab by 2030.

The Commerce Secretary reportedly aims for the US to manufacture 20% of "world's leading-edge logic chips" by 2030, according to the report.
