1 月 16 日，据《金融时报》报道，养老基金正在尝试购买比特币。美国威斯康星州和密歇根州的养老基金已成为专注加密货币的美国股市基金的最大持有者之一，而英国和澳大利亚的一些养老基金管理机构近几个月也通过基金或衍生品对比特币进行了小额配置。
截至 9 月底，美国威斯康星州投资委员会成为贝莱德比特币 ETF 的第 12 大股东，其持有的股份价值约 1.55 亿美元。密歇根州则是灰度以太坊 ETF 的第六大股东，持股价值 1290 万美元，并且也是 ARK 21Shares 比特币 ETF 的第 11 大股东。
自美国选举日以来，英国养老基金咨询公司 Mercer 收到了大量咨询，受托人们不希望自己对热门资产类别一无所知。多数养老基金已转向去年获批的受监管美国现货比特币或以太坊 ETF。在英国，养老金咨询公司 Cartwright 已促成首笔比特币交易，一个未公开的小型养老金计划直接投资约 150 万英镑于比特币，希望通过超额回报填补资金缺口。
同时，已有 50 多名个人储户希望将养老金全额转移至加密货币。Cartwright 正与两家多雇主养老基金探讨设立比特币基金的可能性。澳大利亚 AMP 养老基金管理公司也利用比特币提高回报。AMP 高级投资组合经理 Steve Flegg 表示，尽管加密货币风险高且新颖，但其规模和潜力不容忽视，因此 AMP 投资组合已对比特币期货进行了适度配置。
然而，配置比特币和其他加密货币的基金在养老金行业中仍为少数，多数顾问不愿建议客户涉足加密货币。
