South32 (ASX:S32) produced 2.5 million tones of alumina in the first half of fiscal 2025, down 2% from the year-earlier period, according to a Monday filing with the Australian bourse.
Aluminum production rose 5% to 604,000 tonnes from 575,000 tonnes. In the second quarter alone, the mining company produced more than 1.3 million tonnes of alumina, a 14% increase from nearly 1.2 million tonnes in the prior three-month period. This was also up from nearly 1.3 million tonnes of alumina produced in the second quarter of fiscal 2024.
Aluminum production for the second quarter rose 3% quarter on quarter to 306,000 tonnes. It was also up from 287,000 tonnes a year earlier.
South32 maintained its full-year production guidance across its operations, excluding Mozal Aluminium, where guidance was withdrawn in December 2024 due to civil unrest in Mozambique, as per the filing.
