1311 ET - Steel Dynamics says commercial shipments of rolled aluminum will start in June at its new plant in Columbus, Miss. The company will become the only steelmaker in North America that is also in the aluminum business. "The excitement within our business is palpable," Chief Executive Mark Millett says. "There is a significant North American supply deficit for aluminum sheet and it will continue to grow." The $2.7-billion plant next to one of the company's steel mills will be able to produce up to 650,000 metric tons of aluminum sheet annually. The company expects production this year to run at 50% of capacity and 75% in 2026. Nearly half of the shipments from the plant will be used for beverage cans and 35% will go to the automotive industry. (Robert.tita@wsj.com)
