Steris (STE) said Tuesday that a jury trial since December against its Isomedix Operations unit ended in a mistrial on Friday and the court will schedule the case for re-trial.

The mistrial was declared at plaintiff's request during jury deliberations after a juror was dismissed, reducing the jury to fewer than 12 people, the company said.

The case involves allegations by an individual plaintiff that ethylene oxide emissions from a sterilization plant owned and operated by Isomedix from 2005 to 2008 in Waukegan, Illinois, caused personal injury, Steris said.

Shares of Steris were up more than 3% in early trading.
