3D Systems (DDD) and Daimler Truck said late Thursday they are collaborating with Oqton and Wibu-Systems to help Daimler's certified 3D printing partners manufacture vehicle spare parts locally for various underhood and cabin interior applications.

The move will help the printing partners cut delivery time by up to 75%, the companies said.

"Commercial truck, bus, and touring coach companies will also realize substantial indirect cost savings by minimizing vehicle downtime due to maintenance," according to a statement.

3D Systems shares were up 8.6% in after-hours activity.
