1303 ET - Travelers Cos. had to adjust its catastrophe losses up $100 million as damages from natural disasters are getting harder to predict. Damage from Hurricane Helene unexpectedly hit Georgia and the Carolinas harder than Florida, making the storm more expensive than the insurer had guided for in the third quarter, CFO Dan Frey said. "You just didn't have a lot of comparables in terms of Helene," he said. Catastrophes ate about $3.34 billion out of Travelers' underwriting gains in 2024, up from $2.92 billion in 2023. Shares are up 4% to $249. (katherine.hamilton@wsj.com)
