Hyundai has issued a recall for more than 4,700 vehicles due to a manufacturing defect which could cause the engine to stall out of the blue, increasing the risk of an accident.

The notice was published on January 17 by the federal government’s Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, and the Arts which is the regulator responsible for the recall.

Models which are affected include the Hyundai Kona N (OS) and the i30 Sedan N (CN7) made between 2020 and 2023.

Approximately 4,781 vehicle identification numbers have been listed on the recall.

The issue stems from a manufacturing defect whereby the fuel control valve in the high-pressure fuel pump could allow excess fuel to enter the pump, according to the notice.

“If this occurs, the engine could stall resulting in a sudden loss of motive power whilst driving,” the recall said.

“A sudden loss of motive power whilst driving increases the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.”

Anyone who owns an affected vehicle will be contacted by Genesis Motor Australia (GMA) and be asked to make an appointment to have their fuel pump looked at and replaced if required.

The replacement will be free of charge.
