Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) said Monday that it closed the acquisition of an advanced manufacturing facility and its assets and has started work at its Newport News Shipbuilding site in Charleston, South Carolina.
The acquisition was announced in Decemeber and the company said over 99% of the legacy workers have accepted offers to continue working at the facility and support the production of nuclear-powered submarine modules and aircraft carrier units for US Navy programs.
Huntington Ingalls Industries also said it plans to create hundreds of additional jobs at the Charleston facility to keep up with increased demand.
