0436 GMT - Singapore's FTSE Straits Times Index closed 0.1% higher at 3801.07, led by REITs and telecom stocks. As a value-focused index, the STI seems to have been spared from the U.S. tech carnage overnight, says IG market strategist Yeap Jun Rong says. Investors sought shelter in more defensive assets and the STI stood out as a "traditional safety play" in the region, he wrote. Investors await the Fed meeting for clues about future monetary policy, which influence appetite for riskier assets like stocks. Among advancers, CapitaLand Ascendas REIT climbed 1.95%, Singtel rose 1.9% and Frasers Logistics & Commercial Trust was up 1.7%. Meanwhile, Sembcorp Industries dropped 2.2% and Yangzijiang Shipbuilding lost 2.0%.(amanda.lee@wsj.com)
