Jan 27 - (The Insurer) - Ryan Specialty has appointed Sean Ryan as executive vice president within Ryan Re Underwriting Managers, an MGU specialising in property and casualty treaty reinsurance.

Ryan joins from BMS Re, where he served in a number of roles including deputy chief executive officer, and more recently director for strategic sales. He left the firm last year in a move first revealed by this publication.

His appointment followed the acquisition of Trean Intermediaries, a specialty reinsurance brokerage he founded in 2013 and led as president until its sale to BMS in 2021.

Earlier in his career, Ryan held positions at RK Carvill, Swiss Re, CNA Reinsurance and National Reinsurance.

In his new role, Ryan will lead Ryan Re’s business development efforts, further expanding the reinsurance platform established since the company's founding in 2019.

Earlier this month, Ryan Specialty appointed former Zurich executive Justin Budd as senior vice president and head of internal consulting within its specialty underwriting segment, Ryan Specialty Underwriting Managers (RSUM).
