1401 ET - Quebecor may be testing a higher price point for its phone plans, which could be a positive to help pull up the telecom industry currently trapped in a price war. In a report, Scotiabank's Maher Yaghi says that the Freedom Mobile site shows the C$35 for 50GB of data which expires next week. The analyst says this could be "an opportunity for Quebecor to test potential pricing ideas and hence taking the price up bringing their prices closer to the flankers' C$40/60GB in order to help financials." However, he cautions that this could be a test run, which is typical for the industry in 1Q as volumes are already low. If it holds into peak selling periods, he says this would be a positive sign for the sector. (adriano.marchese@wsj.com)
