1053 GMT - Military equipment needs to evolve and adapt to a future where Western forces won't be able to rely on the Global Positioning System $(GPS.AU)$, James Appathurai, NATO's Deputy Assistant Secretary-General for Innovation, Hybrid and Cyber, told the European parliament on Tuesday. "What those who are at the front tell me is 'we are starting to see the end of the GPS era in a fight'," he says. "That has profound implications for the future." NATO is investing in companies working on integrating quantum and artificial intelligence on the battlefield, he adds, warning that the Russian forces are "extremely good" at jamming and electronic warfare.
