Jan 27 - Juniper Re has hired BMS Re’s global head of legacy solutions Mory Katz to lead the challenger broker’s move into the legacy segment, marking the Baldwin Group-owned reinsurance intermediary’s latest business line expansion, The Insurer can reveal.
According to sources, Katz recently completed a notice period with BMS Re and started in his new role with Juniper Re on Monday and will serve as the broker’s legacy practice leader.
Katz had spent the last four years with BMS Re after a six-year stint at insurance consulting firm Pro Global, two years at Equifax and less than a year at Verisk.
He also spent time as the CEO of Direct Response Corporation and worked at TransUnion and ChoicePoint.
At BMS Re, Katz built, grew, and led the intermediary’s legacy practice, which involved assisting existing and new clients globally with legacy transactions.
At BMS Re, Katz also served as an internal subject matter expert and resource to all of BMS’s brokers.
Juniper Re was launched in September 2023 by the Baldwin Group and is led by former BMS Re chief property officer Jeff Irvan.
The intermediary has executed on an ambitious build-out that includes treaty and facultative operations in the US and Bermuda, as well as a parametric offering.
Juniper Re’s Bermuda business includes former MS Amlin AG Bermuda branch CUO and property head Chris Hayward as head of office and former Price Forbes executive Rebecca Lucking as head of Bermuda wholesale.
The broker also hired former CelsiusPro executive Nick Pewter to lead a Bermuda-based parametric offering.
The Insurer broke the news in September that Juniper Re had recruited former Aspen Re US facultative head Russ Wagner to lead its expansion into facultative business.
Juniper Re's other hires include former Lockton, TigerRisk and Willis Re broker Will Cheney, along with Jani Kohonen, Amy Money and Joe Leotta from BMS Re.
The Insurer broke the news earlier this month that Juniper Re had secured regulatory approval to launch in London, with an operation led by former Willis Re and Guy Carpenter executive Nick Hawke.
