1252 ET - It was technically Royal Caribbean's earnings call-- but analysts wanted to talk about Viking Cruises. Royal Caribbean says it plans to order 10 river cruise ships to launch starting in 2027, leaving analysts to wonder how the travel giant plans to set itself apart from a formidable competitor. In the lucrative river cruise market, Viking is king, offering a massive suite of high-end experiences that Royal has thus far stayed away from. The company acknowledged Viking's prowess, but insisted that its sprawling database of loyal customers would help it enter the market with "beautiful, small ships." Royal Caribbean shares rise 12%.
