全球首次，沃达丰使用普通智能手机完成卫星视频通话
IT之家 1 月 30 日消息，据路透社报道，当地时间 1 月 29 日，沃达丰宣布通过卫星在偏远地区使用普通智能手机成功进行了全球首个视频通话，并计划于今年晚些时候及 2026 年在欧洲推广这一技术，为更多用户提供服务。
本周一，沃达丰的首席执行官马尔格丽塔・德拉・瓦莱接到了公司工程师罗温・切斯梅尔的电话。后者当时位于没有任何网络信号的威尔士山区。
德拉・瓦莱在周三接受采访时表示：“我们使用了唯一能够提供全面移动体验的卫星服务。借助普通设备，用户不仅可以打语音电话、发短信，还能进行视频通话。我们的目标是尽快将这项服务推广给用户。”
据IT之家了解，沃达丰借助 AST SpaceMobile 的五颗 BlueBird 卫星，在低地球轨道提供最高可达 120Mbps 的传输速度，适用于标准智能手机。
沃达丰也是 AST SpaceMobile 的投资者之一，其他投资者还包括 AT&T、Verizon、谷歌等知名企业。
