Virgin Galactic Holdings (SPCE) said Thursday it is partnering with Redwire (RDW) to build research payload lockers for its new Delta-class spaceships, aiming to expand microgravity research capabilities.
Redwire, which develops space infrastructure and microgravity research technology, will manufacture modular lockers designed to be compatible with longer-duration space mission standards, Virgin Galactic said.
The system will enable real-time data transmission during flights and support research for future orbital and deep-space missions, the company added.
Virgin Galactic shares were up 2% in recent Thursday premarket activity, while Redwire stock rose 2.5%.
