Netflix (NFLX, Financials) introduced a full-season download option for its iOS app, allowing users to download an entire season of a show with a single tap.
Originally introduced for Android smartphones in 2021, the functionality is accessible for Apple's iPhone and iPad.
The business said that the upgrade solves a long-standing problem for iOS users, who used to have to download individual episodes manually. Netflix claims that the rollout seeks to increase user convenience, especially for those ready for vacation or offline watching.
The function allows users to download whole seasons straight from a show's display page for all Netflix original programs as well as most licensed titles. Designed adjacent to the Share option, the Season Download button allows downloaded materials to be controlled inside the My Netflix page.
Particularly for lengthy flights, train excursions, or other situations when internet connectivity is restricted, Netflix said the upgrade offers a way for consumers wishing to simplify offline streaming.
Apart from the growth of the functionality, the business said that among Android users since the introduction, Squid Game (Season 1), Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Squid Game (Season 2), One Piece, and Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Series are the five most downloaded series.
The launch of the iOS functionality fits Netflix's larger initiatives to improve user experience and interaction on many platforms.
