Eagle Materials Says Construction Market Challenged By Weather -- Market Talk

0739 ET - Eagle Materials continues to deal with contentious weather. The maker of cement, gypsum wallboard and other building materials says its portfolio of businesses continued to perform well despite adverse weather in its Midwest and Great Plains markets, where rainfall in November was 250% higher than normal. "The excessive rainfall affected sales volume in our Cement and Concrete and Aggregates businesses, although we achieved higher sales volume in Gypsum Wallboard and Recycled Paperboard," says CEO Michael Haack. Haack adds that the company remains optimistic despite the path to lower interest rates and improved home-buying affordability being less certain today. (denny.jacob@wsj.com; @pennedbyden)
