The Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore granted conditional approval to widen the geographical scope of a 2016 joint venture between Singapore Airlines (SGX:C6L) and German airline Lufthansa.

The expanded JV proposes to include more countries in the list of markets in which the two carriers provide scheduled air passenger services to boost tourism in the city-state.

The expanded list includes more territories across Europe and other regions, including Portugal, Iceland, Greece, Spain, the UK, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

It will also extend services operated by Swiss, Austrian Airlines, and Scoot, according to a Friday news release by the antitrust body.

Approval has been granted on certain conditions, ranging from carrying a minimum number of passengers per calendar year to the appointment of an independent auditor to monitor compliance.
