Nissan Motor aims to hold discussions on integrating with Honda Motor (HMC) by mid-February, pushing back the previous January deadline, Reuters reported Friday, citing a Nissan Motor spokesperson.
The report said the two Japanese automakers are exploring a possible merger by 2026.
Nissan's long-time partner, Renault, has expressed openness to the merger, though smaller alliance partner Mitsubishi Motors is reportedly considering not joining the deal, according to Reuters.
Nissan Motor and Honda Motor have not immediately responded to MT Newswires' request for comment.
