OTTAWA--The province of Ontario has temporarily restored a contract with Starlink, a unit of Elon Musk's SpaceX, after President Trump decided to pause for 30 days a 25% tariff on Canadian imports.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford also withdrew other measures he said would go into effect in the event a 25% tariff was imposed, such as a ban on U.S. companies from bidding on $21 billion a year in provincial contracts and the removal of all U.S.-made alcohol from the shelves of state-owned liquor retail outlets.

The deal with Starlink, valued at about $69 million and agreed to in November, is designed to deliver high-speed internet to remote parts of province. Ontario has a population of 16 million and a land mass greater than that of Texas.

A Province of Ontario official said the restoration of the Starlink contract--and keeping U.S. alcohol at Ontario-owned liquor stores--is conditional on Trump refraining from slapping a 25% tariff on Canadian imports.
