Commonwealth Bank of Australia (ASX:CBA) said Amazon Web Services will continue as its preferred cloud provider as part of a five-year strategic collaboration, according to a Tuesday statement from the bank.

The agreement was "central" to its building of a generative artificial intelligence-powered CommBiz messaging service, which will allow business banking customers to make faster payments, the bank said.

Amazon provides the lender's engineers with access to tools and opportunities, such as AWS cloud certification. The bank's development and operations hosting platform, hosted on the Amazon cloud, was enhanced to build AI products and features.

The bank said it is continuing to simplify its technology environment by rearchitecting workloads to the cloud and adopting cloud-native designs.

The bank's shares rose almost 1% in recent trading on Tuesday.
