US Q4 EARNINGS VIEW IMPROVES AFTER HEAVY WEEK OF RESULTS
The forecast for fourth-quarter 2024 earnings for S&P 500 companies has improved slightly from a week ago, with results now in from 178 of the S&P 500 companies, according to LSEG data as of Friday.
S&P 500 earnings overall for the quarter are expected to have risen 11.5% year-over-year, up from 10.4% growth for the quarter estimated a week ago.
Among key results this week, Apple AAPL.O late Thursday beat Wall Street's quarterly profit estimates, but iPhone sales and China revenue for the holiday quarter were weak.
Earlier this week, Microsoft MSFT.O reported quarterly results that beat estimates but forecast disappointing growth in its cloud computing business.
"Big tech earnings reports in recent days have offered investors more insights into the AI outlook in a turbulent week for the sector," UBS strategists wrote in a note Friday.
Chinese startup DeepSeek unveiled a breakthrough in cheap AI models that sparked a selloff in AI-linked stocks on Monday.
Among big tech-related names due to report next week: Alphabet GOOGL.O is expected on Tuesday, while Amazon AMZN.O is seen reporting Thursday.
