Singapore Airlines Named Fortune's Most Admired Airline in Asia

TEMPO.CO, JakartaSingapore Airlines (SIA) has earned a number of new titles on Fortune’s Most Admired Companies list. It is the best airline in Asia, the second best in the world and the 28th most admired company globally, according to the magazine.

This is the Singaporean airline’s highest ranking, having risen from 29th place last year. The airline received high marks for its service and business excellence, placing it second among all airlines worldwide, behind Delta Air Lines which was ranked 11th globally.

“At Singapore Airlines, we are deeply committed to setting new standards in air travel and maintaining our leadership position in the industry,” said SIA chief executive Goh Choon Phong.

Fortune’s Ratings

This is the 27th edition of Fortune’s World’s Most Admired Companies list. The companies are ranked by evaluating businesses based on a poll of 3,380 executives, directors and analysts. The companies are assessed on nine attributes, including management quality, innovation and global competitiveness.

The technology industry dominates the top three spots. Apple leads the world's most admired company, followed by Microsoft in second place, and Amazon in third place. The airline business is also growing rapidly, as evidenced by Singapore Airlines receiving many awards and outperforming several global giants such as Starbucks, Accenture, Visa, and Samsung.

Meanwhile, Delta Air Lines has been recognized as the most admired airline globally, Singapore Airlines is the second best, followed by Air France-KLM Group. US airline SkyWest and Japan's ANA share the fourth position.

As the 28th most admired company in the world, SIA is the only Singapore-based company in the top 50 and the top airline in Asia. SIA is also the second highest employer in Asia, behind Toyota, which is ranked 25th globally.
