Centene 4Q Revenue Grows at Higher Clip Than Wall Street Predicted

Centene posted higher fourth-quarter revenue than a year earlier, with results coming in above what Wall Street had forecast.

The St. Louis health insurer logged earnings of $283 million, or 56 cents a share, up from $45 million, or 8 cents a share, a year earlier.

Stripping out certain one-time items, earnings came in at 80 cents a share. Analysts polled by FactSet expected 49 cents a share.

Revenue rose to $40.81 billion from $39.46 billion. Analysts polled by FactSet expected $39.36 billion.

Centene said premium and services revenues increased 3% to $36.3 billion, driven primarily by Medicaid rate increases and membership growth.
