1001 ET - The average buyer's agent commission held steady at 2.37% in 4Q, down slightly from 2.45% a year prior, according to Redfin. Despite new commission rules by the National Association of Realtors implemented in August 2024, commissions saw only minor fluctuations, starting at 2.38% in July, dipping to 2.35% in August, and returning to 2.38% by December. A Redfin survey of 500 U.S. agents revealed that 48% said the average agent commission in their area remained about the same since the NAR settlement took effect, while 43% noted a decline. Moreover, 54% of agents reported increased negotiation efforts over commissions by clients, with only 6% seeing less negotiation. (chris.wack@wsj.com)
