AXP Energy (ASX:AXP) said the first two modular data centers at its Pathfinder two well site in Colorado came online under a joint development agreement with Blackhart Technologies, according to a Thursday Australian bourse filing.

Bitcoin mining operations are underway at the data centers, the filing added.

The company received approval from the State of Colorado for the data centers. They are powered by natural gas produced by AXP Energy and are co-located with two gas-fired generators that the firm secured with a lease-to-purchase arrangement.

The firm's longer-term goal is to scale operations to meet the power generation requirements of bitcoin miners and data center owners and operators.

It is planning for the build-out of two additional gas-to-power sites at the JW Powell and Kelce Court production hubs. The combined targeted power output is 5 megawatts-hour from gas-to-power sites from its leases in the Florence oil field in Colorado.
