This luxury travel card has some of the most prestigious perks you'll find — access to over 1,400 airport lounges, elite status with Hilton and Marriott Bonvoy (enrollment required), and spending credits worth over $1,500 in value every year. Just be ready for the hefty annual fee, which can be offset in the first year with a welcome bonus worth $800 in points. Terms apply.
Amex Platinum Card holders can call the Premium Global Assist Hotline (PGA) to get help with all sorts of travel-related issues (terms apply).
If you're planning a trip abroad, a PGA rep can answer questions about your destination, like:
You can probably google most of this information, but PGA can help you in other ways while you're traveling. For example:
PGA can't help you with every travel snafu, but it's available to Amex Platinum Card members 24/7. It never hurts to ask, and PGA just might help you get out of a pinch.

A lot of travel cards -- including the Amex Platinum Card -- will give you statement credits to cover the cost of TSA PreCheck or Global Entry. But the Amex Platinum Card goes a step further: Cardholders can also get an annual credit (up to $199) to cover the cost of a CLEAR® Plus membership (terms apply; enrollment may be required).
CLEAR® Plus lets you skip to the front of airport security lines after verifying your identity with a quick scan of your face, eyes, or fingerprints. It's currently available at 58 U.S. airports. Combine CLEAR® Plus with PreCheck or Global Entry, and you'll be reaching your gate in record time.
Many cards offer some form of purchase protection, but the Amex Platinum Card goes above and beyond.
If something you've purchased with your Amex Platinum Card within the last 90 days is stolen, lost, or accidentally damaged, then Amex may reimburse you for some or all of the cost. Your coverage is limited to $10,000 per item and $50,000 in total claims per year (terms apply). That's sky-high compared to most credit cards that offer purchase protection.
There's a long list of exceptions to this policy. For example, cars, buildings, and perishables aren't covered. However, many Amex Platinum Card holders have reported getting their money back with little hassle.
The Amex Platinum Card also comes with return protection. If you decide you don't want something you purchased with your Amex Platinum Card, but the seller won't take it back, then Amex may refund you up to $300. This benefit is capped at $1,000 per year (terms apply).
These are only a few of the Amex Platinum Card's lesser-known perks. Add in the benefits that made the Amex Platinum Card famous -- the many statement credits, the high rewards rate for travel spending, elite status with hotel chains, and more -- and cardholders can earn back their $695 annual fee (see rates and fees) several times over.
