U.S. INDEXES END HIGHER, WITH A BOOST FROM NVIDIA
The three major U.S. stock indexes ended higher on Wednesday, with gains in shares of Nvidia NVDA.O and Broadcom AVGO.O offsetting drops in shares of Alphabet GOOGL.O and Advanced Micro Devices AMD.O.
An index of semiconductors .SOX was up more than 2%, even as Advanced Micro Devices declined more than 6% after the company reported quarterly revenue that missed expectations. Nvidia finished up 5.4% and Broadcom was up 4.3%.
Shares of Google parent Alphabet fell sharply as investors were disappointed with slowing cloud growth and planned $75 billion capital spending for the year. Alphabet ended down 7.3%.
Real estate .SPLRCR led gains among S&P 500 sectors, while communication services .SPLRCL fell the most.
The market was volatile during the session, however, and investors remain worried about back-and-forth tariff moves.
