Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Advance Late Afternoon

Consumer stocks were rising late Thursday afternoon with the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) each rising 0.3%.

Peloton (PTON) shares jumped 11% after the company raised the midpoint of fiscal 2025 revenue guidance and reported better-than-expected sales in the December quarter.

Luxury fashion companies Tapestry (TPR) and Ralph Lauren (RL) on Thursday raised their full-year revenue outlooks after logging stronger-than-projected sales in the holiday quarter. Tapestry shares surged 11% and Ralph Lauren spiked 9%.

Yum! Brands (YUM) shares were up 9% after it reported Q4 earnings ahead of market expectations.

Philip Morris International (PM) issued an upbeat full-year earnings outlook on Thursday as the tobacco company reported Q4 results above market expectations amid robust demand for its smoke-free products and ZYN nicotine pouches. Its shares jumped past 10%.
