BigBear.ai (BBAI, Financials), a provider of AI-powered decision intelligence solutions, has been awarded a contract by the Department of Defense's Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office to advance its Virtual Anticipation Network prototype. Shares of BigBear.ai surged 45.5% to $7.14 as of 2:12 p.m. GMT-5 on Wednesday following the announcement.
Faster and more informed national security judgments are made possible by the system's ability to evaluate geopolitical hazards through media source analysis of near-peer adversaries.
The agreement will assist the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office and the Office of the Secretary of Defense in identifying emerging trends and topics of interest in foreign media. Using artificial intelligence and machine learning, Vane compiles vast amounts of data to forecast adversary actions in multi-domain environments, thereby supporting U.S. military and intelligence operations.
Originally developed in collaboration with the Irregular Warfare Technical Support Directorate (IWTSD), Vane achieved "awardable" status on the CDAO Tradewinds Solutions Marketplace in April 2024. Its transition to an operational prototype marks a significant step toward potential deployment via the Advana platform across Department of Defense Combatant Commands.
