1753 GMT - The U.K.'s FTSE 100 and Germany's DAX indexes closed at new highs Thursday, fueled by the Bank of England's decision to cut its key interest rate as well as strong company earnings. The FTSE 100 closed 1.2% higher at 8727.28 points, its largest one-day point and percentage gain since Jan. 17, according to FactSet and Dow Jones Market Data. AstraZeneca shares closed 5.9% higher after posting a strong set of fourth-quarter results. Meanwhile, the DAX closed 1.5% higher at 21902.42 points, its largest one-day point gain since, Nov. 7, 2024. Shares of German metals supplier Aurubis closed 7.4% higher after the group reported higher revenue and earnings for the last quarter. (nina.kienle@wsj.com)
