Banco Santander (SAN) reported Q4 earnings early Wednesday of 0.20 euros ($0.21) per diluted share, up from 0.18 euros a year earlier.
Analysts polled by FactSet expected 0.17 euros.
Total income for the quarter was 16.03 billion euros, up from 14.55 billion euros a year earlier.
Analysts surveyed by FactSet expected 15.21 billion euros.
The company expects to return 10 billion euros to shareholders through buybacks from 2025 and 2026 earnings and anticipated excess capital, in addition to its standard cash dividend distribution.
The NYSE-listed shares of the Spanish lender traded 7.6% higher in premarket activity Wednesday.
