By Mia MacGregor

Feb 11 - (The Insurer) - Florida-based start-up Mangrove Property Insurance has appointed Chris August as head of distribution.

August joins Mangrove from Orchid Insurance, where he spent three years, most recently serving as head of distribution.

Before that, he was vice president of sales and marketing at American Capital Assurance Corp.

His earlier experience includes roles at Ethos, Prepared Insurance Company and Homewise Insurance Company.

As revealed by this publication, Mangrove launched last month to offer property and casualty insurance solutions tailored to the Florida market.

It is led by longtime RenaissanceRe general counsel and senior executive Steve Weinstein, who secured approval from the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation to launch the admitted homeowners' carrier.

Mangrove's approval made it tenth insurer to enter Florida's property casualty market since legislative reforms were introduced in 2023, bringing more than $297mn in policyholder surplus.

The start-up's website lists former Cabrillo executive Allan Franklin as CFO and treasurer. Its board includes Andrew Endicott, Anne Carmignani, Bartholomew Zanelli and David Hart.
