Broad Market Indicators
Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were lower. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was down 0.3%.
US equity indexes traded mixed as Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell reiterated patience in easing policy after President Donald Trump announced punitive tariffs on all aluminum and steel imports.
Energy
iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) both added about 1.3% each.
Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) eased; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) dropped.
SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) fell 0.5%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) was little changed.
Financial
Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) fell 0.1%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) lost 0.3%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) rose 0.3%.
Commodities
Crude oil rose 1.4%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) added 1.3%. Natural gas was up 2.4%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) advanced 2.5%.
Gold lost 0.1% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) dropped 0.1%. Silver fell 0.5%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) eased 0.5%.
Consumer
Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) rose 0.4%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.
Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) slumped 1.2%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) fell 0.2%, while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) dropped 0.9%.
Health Care
Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was down 0.4%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) fell 1.4%.
Industrial
Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) fell 0.3%, and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were lower.
