Broad Market Indicators
Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was up 1.2%.
US equity indexes rose ahead of President Donald Trump's punitive trade tariff announcements and as quarterly earnings come in strong.
Energy
iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) both added about 1.9% each.
Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was up 1.5%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were higher.
SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) fell 0.7%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) added 1.4%.
Financial
Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) fell 0.9%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) lost 2.7%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) climbed 2.5%.
Commodities
Crude oil rose 1.9%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) added 1.9%. Natural gas was up 4.4%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) advanced 4.6%.
Gold rose 1.4% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) moved 1.4% ahead. Silver fell 0.1%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) added 0.2%.
Consumer
Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) rose 0.3%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were mixed with the latter pointing lower.
Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) added 0.6%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) climbed 0.8%, while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) rose 0.7%.
Health Care
Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was down 0.5%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) fell 0.9%.
Industrial
Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) rose 0.5%, and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were higher.
